Timestamp camera apps

Is a timestamp camera app enough for your team?

Apps like Timestamp Camera and GPS Map Camera are free and print the date, time and location onto a photo. For one person that's often all you need. For a team, ask yourself these five questions first.

Working alone? A free stamp app is fine. Managing a team? Read on.
  1. Where do the photos end up?

A stamp app saves to the phone's gallery. To reach you it has to be sent on: WhatsApp, email, a shared folder. Each step is one more thing a busy worker forgets.

Stamp appOn the worker's phone until they send it, mixed in with their own photos.
TrogsterSent straight to your dashboard, filed under the job it belongs to.
  2. Can you tell what's missing?

You asked for the meter, the damage and the finished work. You got two of the three. Does anything tell you before the worker has left?

Stamp appNo. It takes whatever photos are taken.
TrogsterEach job sets the minimum photos, videos and voice notes. The record can't be sent until they're in.
  3. Is it only photos?

Some things are easier to show in a ten-second video, or to explain in a voice note, than in a picture.

Stamp appMostly photos. Some also stamp video.
TrogsterPhotos, video, voice notes and written notes in one record, with labels like "urgent" or "damage found".
  4. Could the photo be an old one?

The stamp is text drawn onto an ordinary picture. Once it's in a gallery it's just another image file that can be forwarded, cropped or resent later.

Stamp appYou're trusting whoever sends it.
TrogsterCaptured inside the app, with no gallery upload. Each record shows which linked phone it came from.
  5. Can you find it in three months?

A client disputes an invoice from March. You need the photos from one site, one day.

Stamp appSearch chats and inboxes. Hope the worker still works for you.
TrogsterFilter by phone, job, label or date range, or search the notes. The records belong to your account, not to the phone.

If you answered "doesn't matter" to most of these

Keep the free app. Honestly. Trogster costs $15 a month for three phones, and that's only worth paying when you have people out on jobs you can't see and clients who sometimes ask for proof. If that's you, the trial is free for 14 days and needs no card.

Try it on one job

Make a job, link one phone with a 9-digit code, and send a test record from your own garden. You'll know in ten minutes whether it suits you.
